Biosphere Reserve Lower Morava

Biosphere Reserve Lower Morava is situated in the South Moravia Region of the Czech Republic. It is located next to the Austrian and Slovak borders, about 35 km south of Brno. The reserve covers the Pálava Hills with its limestone cliffs and steep slopes as well as the Dyje river valley and its confluence with Morava river.

Today’s Biosphere Reserve was formed in 2003 by extension of the former Pálava Biosphere Reserve and also includes the Lednice-Valtice area and the confluence of the Morava and the Dyje. The Pálava Biosphere Reserve was protected since 1976 and entered in the list of biosphere reserves of UNESCO in 1986. In 1996 the unique landscape and architectural monuments have been designated a world monument by UNESCO.
